My australian shepherd had Cushings (huge belly, ravenous, water, water, and more water, no hair on tail and reduced hair all over), and was treated by Lysodren when he was about 10. His symptoms diminished with treatment but all of a sudden became very ill and we found out he had Addison's- the opposite of cushings. We nearly lost him, but he survived after seeing a specialist. He was placed on no maintenance meds at that point. He is now 14 and his blood work at his check up this year was excellent, no signs of Cushings/Addisons- I was so happy!

Unfortunately right now we are having some problems again- lack of appetite, shaking, weakness etc. He also has serious arthritic hips. We are on the boiled meat, rice, yogurt diet. Weight is still going down. Trying to figure out what is going on, or if we are facing end of life issues.

How long was your dog on Lysodren before he became ill again and the Addisons was determined?
I feel my dog bottomed out with Lysodren as well so I would like to hear about your Lysodren timeline....first dose, maintenance, dosage strength, dogs weight...
Sorry to hear your dog is under the weather. My dog is 10 and very ill. I would take 1 year of 50% improvement of my dogs current state even if it meant he would die at 11. Fourteen years is a lot of living for a dog. I wish you the best.

Hi and welcome to our site. I am an Aussie lover too!

So he is not on any meds at all right?

I have just a sec but am wondering if these new symptoms are associated with pain from his hips. What has your vet or specialist said about this?

Is he on any pain medication right now?

Keep us posted
Terry

Hi and welcome!! Like Terry I too am an Aussie Lover. I am on my second Aussie.:)

My Maddie Girl was on Lysodren, but her life ended with cancer in her hind left leg. I am sure she had arthritis too in her hips. I wish I could give you more information as to why your Aussie is having issues.:(

I know someone will be along to help.

Take care, we are here for you no matter what direction you take!!!:)
