Ok guys. You are always full of wonderful advice and useful information. My daughter's 13 year old lab/retriever mix has several health issues with significant weight loss.

Results from today's ultrasound:
>>> • Kidney infection on left side – needs antibiotic treatment for 6-8 weeks. No guarantee that this will fix bowel issues.
>>> • Bi-lateral adrenal gland enlargement – most likely a sign of Cushings Disease and probably cause for weight and muscle loss.
>>> • Inflamed walls of intestines – potentially multiple causes.
>>> • Liver shows signs of “remodeling” and there is likely a tumor on left side.

Does anyone have a great "home made" recipe for a high calorie/low fat diet? (Low fat due to intestinal issues).

You could try adding a lot more carbs to the current diet with skinless, boneless chicken breasts. Carbs such as rice (cooked like mush), pasta, potatoes, and oats.

I'm believe Leslie has a recipe for Satin balls which helps when trying to increase in calories.

Great to hear from you, Lyn, and wishing you all the best.

Hi Lyn, (not Leigh, sorry :o )

Here are the recipes for satin balls that I have -

The dog might not have active pancreatitis but a sudden sharp increase in fat can trigger it. Go slowly. Here are the two versions.

Classic version

1 lb ground beef
1 8 oz pkg cream cheese
1 small jar all natural peanut butter
1 jar (smaller of the sizes) wheat germ
1 doz egg yolks
1 cup or so of flaked cooked oats soaked in heavy cream

Mix up, form balls, freeze, feed as treats or food supplement

CAT’S VERSION:

1 lb ground lamb, turkey or venison (or combination)

1 8 oz package of ricotta cheese

2 ounces almond butter

2 ounces coconut oil

4 ounces ground flaxseed

1 dozen egg yolks

2 cups rice cereal cooked

Other things she can try include green tripe, sardines(canned in water and
drianed) scrambled eggs, novelty meats like ostrich and rabbit, and certian
types of babyfood. Baked treats can be good too, if the meat content is high
enough to get them interested. Don't OD on protein.

Kathy’s recipe
TO ADD WEIGHT

20 pounds ground 70/30 beef or lamb
2 pounds beef or chicken livers pureed in the blender (gross I know)
12 eggs pureed in the blender
1-pound bag of cranberries pureed in the blender with the eggs
2 containers high fat ricotta cheese
2 cans jack mackerel or Salmon - drained
2 big cans spinach drained
1 box total cereal
1 jar wheat germ
1 big round box oatmeal
1 can of pumpkin
2 cups unsweetened applesauce

Bake at 350 like a meatloaf.

Hope this helps!
Hugs,
Leslie

Thanks a bunch! I knew I could count on some help from you guys.

We are doing okay. Our youngest daughter is currently living with us as she faces a divorce which should be final in August. She will then know what she can afford in the way of housing. Her two very young boys (2 and 4) are with us half time. Their father has them the other half. How does one become a part-time mother??????????

Our little Piper Rose is a wonderful little soul. She is very sweet and affectionate and we are so happy every day that she is in our lives. I don't know how folks manage without a fur friend.

Hope you all are doing okay too. Thanks again for your input.
