Hi and Welcome,

I am so glad you found us but sorry to hear about the diagnosis. We have members who have had successful adrenalectomy and I am sure they will be stopping by to share with you.

Being scared, why I think that is a natural reaction. Surgery can be very scarey indeed and when it is for one of our pups, why it is like contemplating surgery on your toddler.

We are here to hold your hand and give you support and anything else you may need.

Try to remember to breathe, we sometimes get in a panic and forget;) It will be okay. We will be with you every step of the way. You do not have to do this alone.

hugs,
addy

Hello and welcome,

My Shiloh had a very successful adrenalectomy in October of 2006 at the age of 12. She lived for another 3.5 years with an excellent quality of life.

We have had many successful adrenalectomies here. Just recently, Roo's dog Java had her left adrenal gland removed and is recovering nicely. Hopefully, she will be stop by soon.

How old is your pup? Which adrenal gland has the tumor? Do you know anything about its size/vascular involvement? Does your surgeon have alot of experience with adrenalectomies?

As you know, it is a very serious surgery. The day of Shi's surgery (Oct. 19, 2006) was the most difficult day I have had for many years. Prior to the surgery she was just "hanging on" but she recovered beautifully and was a happy, healthy dog for a long time afterwards. I know it is tough.

I only recently joined this site myself - see Help - new Member (adrenalectomy) -pheochromocytoma. Our dog had just had an adrenalectomy, and unfortunately she was a bit poorly afterwards. We still have not discovered what caused the problem, but now, thankfully, 4 weeks on, she is almost back to her normal self - I say 'almost' as I am aware that I am holding her back quite a bit, as I am frightened of her overdoing things! I am also now looking for problems - I need to learn to calm down!

As a new member I have very limited experience or advice to offer but I can understand your anxieties only too well, and hope that everything goes well for you and your dog.
