So glad I found this group. My 10 yr old boxer Swede was just diagnosed with cushings. Because of her age and being a boxer I don't want to stress her out with alot of medicine. I was thinking of anipryl to relieve the systoms but am getting mixed comments. I would like to go wholistic if possible. I am certified in Healing Touch for animals and do use essential oils, and accupuncture.
I am not sure what oils to use , does any one know?I want to increase the dopamine is this right?
What other homeopathic have others tried? I saw 2 natural supplements. One was called Supraglan ,the other Cushex.I am at a loss .
She was diagnosed with mass cell cancer 8 months ago but she is now cancer free.
Thanks for anything anyone can offer in advice. Lucretia

Hi Lucretia,

Welcome to you and Swede, although I am so sorry for the circumstances that brought you here, I am very glad you found us.

Cushing's is not a death sentence, it is a treatable disease. Delivery of competent and humane medical care by a skilled GP and/or specialist experienced in the diagnosis and management of Cushing’s has a significant impact on patient survival and well-being. With proper medical management, close monitoring and owner observation, most Cushingoid pets can live to their full life expectancy, with complete or partial resolution of clinical signs, and good quality of life!

The only way to treat Cushing's properly is with the two medicines most prescribed which are Lysodren/Mitotane or Vetoryl/Trilostane. The two supplements, Supraglan and Cushex, do nothing to treat this disease so please do not waste your money on these products.

Strong symptoms are a huge part of making the diagnosis, does Swede display any symptoms? What test/s were done to confirm the Cushing diagnosis? Could you post the results of all test/s here, please. The more information we know about Swede the better our feedback will be.

Please know we will help you and Swede in any way we can so do not hesitate to ask any and all questions.

Love and hugs,
Lori

I do not have the results but she is drinking and having accidents. The test given was blood work then an all day test they stated that it is conclusive for cushings. The test did not come conclusive for the pituitary or for the adrenials . I will not have an operation on her so no need for a sonagram.I can not afford the testing need done for the one drug, Trilostane. They do not useLysodren/Mitotane .At the age 10 for a boxer it is a good life span and she is my heart.I want to honor her. I was thinking of anipral to control the symtoms of urination and excessive drinking. She is beginning to lick her paws. Thanks for the reply
