Hi all,
Through this new thread I want to share something with those of you that are involved in rescue organisations.
Last year there was the first ever Straydog conference, held in Utrecht, The Netherlands. In my country alone, there are 110 rescue organisations involved in rescueing strays from abroad. Each doing everything on their own, Each working in different countries, each with a lot of volunteers, each looking for sponsors and money, all struggling with the same problems, each trying to make a change.
Anyway, as a result, the "Animal Foundation Platform" was established. They act as a kind of "umbrella" for all those seperate organisations. Out of the 110 organizations over 70 have committed themselves to this platform, they communicate, share information and experience, raise money together, find big sponsors, etc For the future focus of the Foundation will be on education of people in the countries were the dogs come from, to keep the dogs in their own country and work on solutions over there, work together with local partners and shelters and International expansion of the Platform. The founder of this platform, Angelique, has contacted me to ask if she and I could work together on a project to try and set up a program (worldwide) where straydogs will be trained to become service dogs, search- and rescue dogs, etc.
Angelique has been invited by the director of WSPA, World Society for the Protection of Animals, to implement her program in 13 other countries. Also, Angelique won the Global Women's Award (http://globalwomenssummits.com/nomination/angelique) and will fly to LA this October.
Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuz6v4cGYLs) a video presentation about the AFP (Animal Foundation Platform)
The concept of the AFP is designed to expand internationally. All it needs is innovative and dedicated people who want to make a difference and solve the stray dog problem globally. Recently the AFP South-Africa was launched.
But we're looking to get a global network going, so, if anyone here has any interest or knows people that work for rescue organisations, please let them know :)
The website of the AFP can be found here (http://www.animalfoundationplatform.nl/). Once there, you'll see in the right upper corner "Please find here our mission statements. For more information please contact Angelique". There you can find an English text and Angelique's e-mail address :)
You can also check out their Facebook, Hyves, Twitter and You-tube accounts, and through them the account of the newly founded AFP South-Africa :) Let's get the USA involved as well! But also Australia, New-Zealand, the UK...:D
