I can use the Internet Archives to try to get hold of some of the informational threads on the Cushing's Board and post them here if that would be helpful. :)

The bad news is that there are only 2 home pages there--the good news is that Google has a lot of various cached pages. Their last crawl was April 2 for some.

What I'll start doing here is to post the Google cached thread links so you can view them as Google saved them. When I get enough of them, I'll try to put them in some type of order.;)

FWIW, I am able to use the links. I get the type of message you're getting if I work too long at Google Books. When that happens, I take a break from Google Books for a while and go back--it works then and I can go back to them.

Hi Kathy,

I tried them this morning & this afternoon and both times they had the same error for me. I don't need them, but I was just checking them out because they all have cc.net within the link. But I'm an idiot with this stuff - I don't know what you mean by Google "Books" and I'm gonna have to look up what FWIW stands for:o.

-Susy

Okay, now I know what FWIW stands for (I only found out what LOL stood for was about 2-1/2 years ago!!!;))

Google has a site where you can read all or part of books and magazines--that's Google Books. Sometimes when you "read" a little too much, you get cut off with the "suspicious spammer" message--at least it happens to me regularly. :D

Susy, could it be some sort of firewall or other defense on your system that is triggering the error?

Hi Susy,

You sound like me with this computer stuff! :D Even after I got one and started learning how to use it, I was terrified of the web. When in college, I would have one of the youngsters do my online research in exchange for typing, proof-reading, etc. They thought it was really funny helping the "old lady who's scared of the internet"! :p Everyone kept setting up emails for me but I never even connected to the web much less looked. I wonder if they are still out there?! The first time someone put ROFL (rolling on floor laughing) in a message, I thought they were talking about someone named Ralph and just mispelled it, or they were talking about puking! :o

Glad you made it here!
Hugs,
Leslie and the girls

A,

I searched and first found the name of the original thread, which in this instance was Zoe's Story (treatment with trilostane). Then I typed in caninecushings + Zoe's Story (treatment with trilostane). There will be "another" link somewhere to search for similar findings which were omitted from the original search. This one bring up lots of pages, not only for Zoe but for many others.

Some pages are cached and some are not and nothing is in order. There are several missing pages and gaps. So far I have found 84 different links/pages to Sue/Zoe's thread from 4-10-06 to 3-01-09.

I just saw this note of yours, Louise. OK, so I tried the what you said - thinking maybe I'd try to save Zoe's entire story - or what there was left of it. I typed in what you said, and the first two hits were obviously about my Zoe. I then figured out I have to click on "cached" - but then I can only get to one pg. (pg 3). Is there a quick way to get all the pages that are cached. Because if I click on the other page numbers at the bottom of that page 3, I'm tossed back to the stupid search portal thing. I sure would like to save Zoe's story for my own reference, since I stopped keeping a journal ages ago. THat 84 pages is probably about half of Zoe's saga.....Thanks. Sue/Zo

Hi All,
Doesn't always work but this is what I've been doing. Seems to depend on googles mood for the day or hour of the day.

Yes it only the first page of the thread but if we find enough, we cann put the story together maybe even find a hint on how to contact that member.

John (Roxee's Dad)

Had another brain farX. If you go to google search and type in "canine cushings forum" and search.

Then find a result that leads to caninecushings.net
Click on "similiar pages", then start checking the different results (all should be from the cc.net site.) (not always)

Then check on "cached" and the cc.net page for that thread will come up (snapshot taken early April 2009).

I've been checking hoping to find someone who may have put their e-mail in one of the threads. There are many to search. Also found the document for acth testing.

Sue,

I'll see if I can retrace my steps and double check my instructions. I had to go through each and every single page and check everything that was cached  (and I'm still not through). I did save all the links and have them in order by date in a text file. I'll see if I can PM you the links.

Thanks John - that is the link to the one page I was able to get to. Louise just sent me links for all the other Zoe pages she's found, so at least I have those. Hopefully, I can find the others that are cached and put Zoe's epic back together!! Sue

PS - I also just noticed that Zoes' thread title (at the top) is the same as it last was at cc.net. But in looking at the individual posts on Zoe's page 3, it has the original title of her thread.....i.e. Zoe's troubles with trilostane. After things settled down, we changed her thread title. Guess the old title shows up because these are copies of the pages as they were cached long ago? Maybe??

AlisonandMia
04-16-2009, 08:11 PM
Old titles show at the tops of individual posts as they were at the time of posting. The title that shows up on the first post in the thread will, however, always change to show the latest title of the thread while all other post titles remain as posted - if that makes sense.

I think I may have found the motherlode of cached copies of Zoe's thread for Sue. I hope these links work (it seems to be all Zoe's story from the second link on to the last one here). Not all have cached pages but most of them do. :D And they aren't in order, but maybe Sue can piece most of the thread together with these:

I think I just got lucky tonight --- with Zoe's thread I mean!

I used the name of the thread for a search on google "Zoe's story (treatment with trilostane)" and then clicked where it said "more results from caninecushings.net" or something liuke that. And then when that result came up I kept kept clicking until I got to the very last search result page, where it offers you the option of redoing the search and including previously omitted results ... I clicked on that and that last link cam up, which gave me another big bunch of pages with that search term in it ... and a bunch of the results are actually from other members' threads.

I'm not a techno wizard by a long shot ... just got lucky tonight I think.

It might help some people to go to Google Advanced Search,

1) If you know the exact title of your thread and have never changed it:
after "Find web pages that have...this exact wording or phrase:" - fill in the exact title of the thread
or
If your thread’s title has changed over the course of your thread:
after "Find web pages that have... all these words:" – I would fill in any words that may be common throughout title changes, such as (maybe) your pup’s name.

2) After "Need more tools? Search within a site or domain:" - fill in www.caninecushings.net

Here's a sample:
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=site:www.caninecushings.net+%22F inally+diagnosed+-+Wylie+(11+yr+old+Alaskan+Malamute)%22&hl=en&lr=&rlz=1T4RNWE_enUS310US310&as_qdr=all

3) Then click on the “Advanced Search” button

NOTES:
- If you see the following text at the bottom, go ahead and click on “repeat the search with omitted results included” (because I think some of the cached versions get omitted):
"In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 1 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included."

- If you have more than one cached file for a particular page, look at all of them. Some might have more posts (cached at different times).

- I have been making pdf’s of the files because I’ve found that sometimes I can’t access the cached file later (with the same link) – I don’t know why, this is all new to me. If you can’t make a pdf, I would print it.

Here is what I did -- I just tried it with a few pages but I think it will work for all.

First, I did a google search with some of the words that were in the title of the most recent posts of Winnie's thread (Winnie, Keeshond, Trilostane, has passed). That got me to one of the latest pages and in the cached version I could see how many pages there were. Then, I did a search with the words consistent in all the titles of all of Winnie thread (Winnie, Keeshond & Lysodren) and "Page 1." This got me the first page. So, after that, it is just repeating the seach with the page number changed until I get all the pages. I think this should work for about anyone.

Let me know if it helps.

Thanks to everybody's tips, I've been able to google some of my own threads that are most important to me on cc.net, such as my memorial tribute to my Barkis. (You would have thought that I would have been smart enough to have just saved a copy for myself when I wrote it, since this was the SECOND tribute I wrote after having lost the first one to the ezboard hack...:(:().

But none of my threads have cached versions listed, so all that happens is that I am directed to the current bogus cc.net homepage. As you all know only too well, I am totally computer-stupid. Can anyone tell me why none of my old threads would have a cached version??

“Sue,

Are you talking about those gray color text pages?? I started saving those too, only to discover they were duplicates of the actual forum pages from cc.net. If not, good deal. I'll have to go check out the link Cushy posted.”

To Louise, in answer to your above PM question - so that all can maybe try this in their own searches.

I clicked on this first one, actually, that cushy posted:

http://www.google.ca/search?q=site:w...n&start=0&sa=N

A long list of Google hits comes up, most of them links to individual pages in "Zoe’s story" But when I clicked on the third one that said [ARCHIVES], I was taken to a page that contained multiple pages of the original Zoe thread. The ‘hit’ I clicked on looked like this - note the word [Archive] and page 7 - which is different than all the other ‘hits’.

Zoe's story (treatment with trilostane) [Archive] - Page 7 ...
Zoe's story (treatment with trilostane) Questions and Discussions.
www.caninecushings.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-1526-p-7.html - 287k - Cached - Similar pages

(Also, you must click on cached in these links.) Well, it turns out this was page 7 of 8 total for Zoe’s thread (which at cc.net was nearing 190 pages.) But if I try to access those other pages directly from this link, it’s back to search portal hell!!
So I think if I copy the url for this ARCHIVE result and substitute the other page numbers in place of the 7, then maybe I can get the whole thread (or a good chunk of it) much more quickly. This page format is not gray that I can see, but it was originally in a centered format when I first found it. (Now it’s to the left, but it still does not look like the regular cc.net pages.) Note its size is 287k which is much larger than the individual page results. Sue

PS -- Here, you must click on cushy's link (the first one above) to get to the archive link I'm talking about. If you try to click on the archive link (the 2nd one) that I copied and posted above, you will only get the infamous 'search portal' again.

I just tried this "method" with a few other threads I've been looking for and as has already been pointed out, caching is random, so it doesn't always work ... :(

But I think you have all of Zoe's thread there now in the archived version ... amazing!

Cushy - THAANKS for doing the actual work for me. Just one more pointer. I went to page 1 and tried doing "save as" and it didn't go too well. So instead, I went back to each Google archive page and clicked on "File" menu, then "Send," then "page by e-mail" and sent the dang things to myself. They all went quickly and came thru without a hitch.

The last post on Zoe's page 8 is early March. I know there were some later posts, so I'm guessing those haven't been "archived" yet, but probably will be at some point in time. Anyway, it IS most of Zoe's thread. YEAAAAA!!! I hope the rest of you can find your threads the same way. I found somebody else's (forgot whose) this way and it was short enough to be contained all in one archived page. Thanks again, Cushy!!!! Sue/Zoe

Hi - check out the Google advanced search instructions from "Wylie's Mom" on this thread. Susy is spot on - I was able to find Angel's thread in seconds! I haven't tried to save anything yet, but at least she is there!

Angel is going for a 5 mo ACTH in a few minutes; her last one was the unreadable results in Nov (too low to read). I will post a quick thread for her now.

LESLIE - OMG!!! What a way to go to the vet today - I am laughing so hard I am crying! Take care - Joyce, Pebbles & Angel

Google tip:

Site Search

The word "site" followed by a colon enables you to restrict your search to a specific site. To do this, use the site:sampledomain.com syntax in the Google search box. For example, to find admission information on Stanford's site, enter:
admission site:www.stanford.edu then hit "enter" button.

Hi Sharon,
The following is a search for “Nike site:www.caninecushings.net”:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Nike+site:www.caninecushings.net&hl=en&lr=&rlz=1T4RNWE_enUS310US310&as_qdr=all&start=50&sa=N

I only click on the word Cached for the files that have Nike in the title. I went through the first 5 pages of the search. There is plenty more. If you can continue, start on page 6 of the search. The following is what I found on the first 5 search pages:

Just wanted to say that with these cached versions you need to save them somehow - PDF or Word or whatever - as they will not be out there for ever. From what I've seen most cached versions are only kept by the search engines for about 3 months or so.

Hi, all! Thanks to everyone's great directions, I was able to pull up my Maggie's full thread. I am trying to put together a memory box of her things and my posts will definitely be part of it now. (FYI, right before the website went down, I had posted that Maggie had lost her battle on March 12th -- it took me a few weeks to be able to post about her. I am doing better now knowing that she is no longer in pain.)

Is saving them in Word ok, or do they need to be in PDF format? I am familiar and comfortable with Word but don't use the Adobe, etc program much at all so don't know much about them. If Word is ok, then I will save them that way...if not, I will send the saved Word docs to someone who can put them in PDF form.

I had copied Squirt's thread a while ago but when I restored my system, I didn't copy them thinking they would be on the site to get again....that nite was when the site crashed! geez....oh well, I do have all her test info and diet info saved, thank goodness!

Hi all,
I think I found ALL of Lady's story, using the google advanced search. I needed a new ink cartridge to print it off and it took a while. Some of the pages were separate and the rest were all together. I had to go slowly, figuring out what I had printed off last night and piecing it together with what I found today. Text version is the easier to print...
BUT I HAVE OUR STORY.... and it looks like the manuscript for a book!!

Thanks for the tips to find it...I'd never have been able to do it on my own. I hope everyone is able to find theirs...I've just been sick, thinking ours was all gone.
