Hi, Our boy Belvedere has had cushing now for 4 years and was on Lysodren and last christmas they put him on new meds which he reacted to and we took him off the Lysodren and starting him on a natural cushing drops. Well he had a set back and is now in the hospital and been diagnoised with diabetes with his cushings. Does anyone have a dog with diabetes and cushings? And what treatment are you doing and what works? I really don't want to go back to the Lysodren any suggestions? Thank you for your help. Nadine and Belvedere

Hi Nadine and welcome to you and Belvedere. Your post / thread was in moderation awaiting approval. Please check your e-mail and follow the instructions.
There are a few members here and at our sister site http://www.k9diabetes.com/forum/ that have both Cushing's and diabetes. I am sure they will chime in to share their knowledge and experience.
Once again, Welcome.

Hi Nadine,
Corky and I also want to welcome you and Belvedere. I don't have any experience with diabetes, but as John mentioned, we do have members that are dealing with both cushings and diabetes.
Since you don't want to go back to using Lysodren, you can also use Trilostane. Trilo helps keep the cortisol level under control without eroding the adrenal glands. Corky has been taking Trilo for 20 months now, and he hasn't had any problems with it.

Dear Nadine
My Apollo is also on Trilostane. I tried the natural cushex for awhile. But in the end I did have to start medication. But ask us questions and learn as much about cushing first. We are here for you.

Hi Nadine and welcome to you and Belvedere!
I was wondering if you could tell us more about Belvedere's Cushing's journey. I was especially interested in learning about the new meds that he was started on last Christmas which he had a reaction to.
As Terri and Sonja have already mentioned Trilostane/Vetoryl is another Cushing medicine that can be used to control elevated cortisol.
Is Belvedere on any other medicines/herbs/supplements? Has the type of Cushing's been confirmed in Belvedere? If so, could you post the test/s results that were done to confirm his diagnosis, please.
John (Roxee's Dad) has provided you with a link to our sister forum which deals with canine diabetes and I really do suggest that you join there also. They are very knowledgeable about canine diabetes and are very wonderful and supportive people.
Please know we will help you in any way we can so ask all the questions you want. In the mean-time here is a link to information about Trilostane/Vetoryl: Trilostane/Vetoryl Information and Resources. (http://www.k9cushings.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185

Love and hugs,
Lori
