Hi all, just a question regarding my girl Natchos sleeping habits...? As we live in a tiled flooring unit , and our summer is pretty hot at the moment .. Natcho continues to lay on the tiles, when we have provided cushioned bedding ,carpet mats, and also a cooler bed with foam and water inside .
She has an injection every 3 mths Cartrophen..but i cant keep her off the tiles ? .. i know this is no good for her ,and she struggles to get up some times.. we have refrigerated air con
and keep her cool ..[ but not cold ]..she enjoys her walks on leash as she is nearly deaf..is 12 yrs old and thinks she is still a puppy ..Any advice as to what i can do , would be greatly appreciated .. as you have all helped me in the past with my Ebonie, thought i would lean on you all once again ..;)
Catherine :)

HI! I am not familiar with Cartophen but alot of people here use Adequan shots for arthritis with good results. Also we have a natural alternative anti-inflammatory that is relatively new called Duralactin. I have been using it for my Annie and it has really helped her hind leg issues. Here is a link to info I posted a while back. Kim

Hi Catherine,
Good question...I have a 16 year old boy who does have arthritis and is on Adequan shots. The Adequan has really helped him tremendously. Although we have 1/2 the house carpeted and 5 or 6 beds for him to lay on or in.....he always chooses to lay on the cold tile floor. He does get into the bed for a little while ..... but it's always back to the cold tile.

Cooling mats are available for dogs that provide a bit of cushion as well as the coolness of an un-carpeted surface. Don't know if Nacho or Mickee would use them, but they are out there. Might be worth a try if the hard surfaces seem to bother them.

Leslie

Hi Catherine,
Cartrophen appears to be very similar to adaquan. I am personally familiar with adaquan and can recommend it or meds with similar properties.
As far as seeking cool places; To begin with they are lots hotter than we are and if there is an inflammatory issue going on inside their littles selves it is no wonder they seek coolness.
I like the suggestion that you think about a mat if this is a longstanding issue as that would be more comfortable than a hard surface.

Hi Catherine,
Glad to hear that Nacho is using the cooling mat! I would probably have done the same thing with the water and been wondering why it wasn't liked.:p:o I usually figure things out the hard way! :D
I hope it helps her!
