FYI: AAA discount on Lysodren

I'm not sure if this has come up before, but I wanted to share that I recently learned that most major pharmacies will give a AAA discount on prescriptions that are not covered by insurance. You just have to fill out a "card" that you print & fill out from the AAA website (look for "prescriptions" under "discounts"). I believe the discount is ~15% for brand names and more like ~20% for generics. When I used it, I saved $25 at CVS on 15 pills of Lysodren!

I guess I dont really know how much treatment via Lysodren is, any one able to shed some light on this for a 25-30lb dog. I see it listed online for $10-14 a pill?

Also, did you vet write an Rx for it and you took it to CVS? Our vet always gives us the meds in house. I would be happy to find out that CVS has the same stuff. LOL!

Usually when starting out people buy just a few from their vets to see if it is tolerated, works, etc. But then when going on maintenance people will start searching for better pricing because the vets COSTS are higher than what we can buy online.

I bought online at drugstore.com for 4 years and never had a glitch. Yes the vet gives them an rx. What was nice is whenever it needed refilling they called my vet and I didn't have to do a thing. It didn't delay shipping and was very convenient. Last I paid was like $4.50 a pill. So you can see it is much cheaper. There are other sites as well that are good. Costco carries it also. Kim

Lysodren is a human drug that is used off label for veterinary purposes. You are always going to pay more money for drugs at your vet's office. If your vet will give you a script, you can have it filled at any pharmacy that carries Lysodren. I know that both Costco and Walmart carries the drug at similar pricing. Costco has an online price checker for their drugs and Lysodren is currently $160.95 for 30 pills, $260.39 for 50 pills and $498.94 for 100 pills. The pills at 30 count would be about $5.36 per pill and the more you buy, the less it costs per pill. These are 500 mg pills which can be used for dogs receiving minimum doses of 125mg, which is 1/4 tablet. Trying to cut smaller doses than 125mg is pretty much impossible so little dogs like mine, who require smaller doses, must have their meds compounded. I get 72 capsules of 60mg mitotane for $103.00, which includes shipping, at Diamondback Drugs in Scottsdale, AZ.

AAA offers lots of discounts on meds, we got a discount on Lucys $$$ phenoxybenzamine the med she has to take so she can have surgery. It was very expensive medicine. anything helps these days

Buster weighs 27lbs, so my rx for the loading phase (15 pills) initially cost $98 at CVS; the AAA discount brought it down to $74. The AAA website says that you get even bigger discounts if you buy the meds online, but I haven't looked into that in more detail so I'm not sure if it only applies to specific websites or if it would work on most of them.
