Hi! MY name is Pat and Scoby is a 11 yr old daschound. At the age of 7 we were told he had an enlarged heart with an inoperable freshy tumor that was slow growing that he will only live to be 8yrs. well now going on 11 I wonder about cushing, What are the signs of cushing? My vet is only out for money as I just found out a few months ago that my Star has diabetes and if he had his way I be in the poor house but thanks to k9 diabetes I have had a lot of help with her and she'doing pretty good, we have our ups and downs but they are always there to help. So what can I do for Scoby? We were told just to let him live as comfortably as we can. He's in good spirits, lays around alot but still gets up and go outside walks around the yard does what he has to and comes back in and back to his sofa, he eats well seems to be a happy old dog!
Thanks and any advise will help
Pat

Hi Pat and Scoby,

Welcome to our forum.

Here is a link (to other links) a tons of information about Cushing's and yes it is treatable - . These links explain the testing involved to come to a Cushing's diagnosis. http://k9cushings.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180. It also explains the symptoms.

First off was any testing done by your vet? If so, please let us know what kind of test and results.

A lot have found their current vet has not treated a lot of Cushing's cases and therefore find another vet with more experience and even a specialist.

There are a lot of things you can do for your pup - the testing is the most important step and then treatment.

Welcome to you and Scoby.
I have also attached a link with a brief description of the symptoms, and three kinds of cushing and tests.

I am Apollo's mom. Apollo is 12 years old and probably had cushing for years until properly diagnosed.
We are here to support and help you. Take your time reading about this disease, first.

Hi! From what I read I think Scoby has cushings but now I have to find a vet I trust one that's out to help the animals not not line their packets. Most vet here don't know much. I find that I can get better help on line then from them. What is the homeopathic remedy you are talking about? How does it work? If I can help him live longer I need to do all I can.
Thanks Pat and Scoby

Hi Pat,

Like you, I would like to know what Julie is using with Vickie and how it is working for her. Maybe she will start a thread of her own and share Vickie's story with us. ;)

The first thing you need to do, Pat, is start the testing phase for Scoby. One test I strongly recommend in the ultrasound in light of the known tumor already present. This tumor could be causing Scoby's signs and any elevations of cortisol that shows up on the tests. Cortisol is the body's natural response to any stressor - external or internal, like a tumor. Since the tumor is around his heart, I am not sure an abdominal U/S will pick that up so be sure to ask the vet to include his chest area. If Scoby were mine, this is the first thing I would do.

Please keep in touch and let us know how Scoby and you are doing.

Hugs,
Leslie and the girls :D - always
