Enlarged Heart - Casey's best friend

Hi everyone, this is something completely unrelated to cushings but hopefully I will find someone here who has experience with this condition.

My mom and dad have a 12 year old chihuahua jack russell cross - Tawnee. She is in great shape and no other symptoms other than she started coughing about a month ago. My mom took her to the vet today and they xrayed her and said she has an enlarged heart, sent the dog home and said she would call later. She called and talked to my dad (who has dementia) so we don't really know what is going on. I told my mom I would call the vet in the morning.

Does anyone know the questions I should ask? I think she should at least be on some type of medication.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am no expert but Annie has a heart murmur and was wheezy with occasional coughing and some sneezing. The vet did an ECG. He sent the test results to a board certified specialist out of state. They put her on some meds.

I would think that xrays will only tell you so much and that additional testing needs to be done to determine what is causing the heart problems (enlargement, coughing).

Hopefully others will add their thoughts to this but this is what I recently experienced. Good luck! Kim
