Hi everyone. I noticed that Bailey seemed a little noisy when she was overexerting the last couple of days, so I decided to bring her to the local vet. He felt that he heard some exhalation noise and did one lateral x-ray. He showed it to me, and said that there was a shadow that could possibly be a form of cancer. He didn't think it was metastatic, but could be primary. He said it was a "50/50" shot that it was/wasn't cancer.
Her internist at Tufts is out of the office until next week, and I do have an appointment. The local vet "hopes they prove him wrong" and of course, so do I. Clinically, she is doing really quite well - minimal weight loss (and I have had her on a diet) and otherwise, looks good.
Please join me in hoping for the best. I realize her age is against her, but....with all the events of the recent months, it would not be great for my mental health right now. I am dealing with upcoming back surgery, a broken foot, Norman's death and just getting back from dealing with his ashes, and work being really, really difficult about time out.
Thank you.

My heart goes out to you and my prayers and thoughts are with you as you face yet another problem. I too hope Tuft's proves your vet wrong and it turns out to be nothing serious for your sweet Bailey. God must know you need a break.
Love (((HUGS))) and prayers.

Our prayers & thoughts go out to you as well. What day is the appointment and we will pray extra hard on that day. We will be in France, but, believe me, we will not forget. At least you know you will be in the very capable hands of the people at Tufts. We will wait for your updates.
Healing light and all our love and hugs to Bailey and his mom.

Hi Lynne,
Good to hear from you! Just wish it wasn't about Bailey and a possible problem. :( But, I am hoping it was just some trapped air or something they saw and the vet at Tufts will pooh-pooh the idea of cancer.
I am so sorry to hear about your pending surgery and the injury to your foot. You certainly didn't need that on top of everything else you have had to deal with. Life can be so hard at times. But I know you are another tough gal and will come out the other side stronger than ever.
Sending hugs, prayers and best wishes,
Leslie and the girls - always

Lynne, you know you can count me "in" as part of Bailey's cheering squad!!!!!!!!!!!! (And yours too, of course! ;)). Good grief, but you've got a lot to be dealing with right now. As Leslie says, for the time being we're just gonna consider this a possible problem for Bailey, and focus our energy on the positive 50% part of the equation.
Please keep us updated just as soon as you learn more, OK?
Huge hugs to you and Bailey and Clyde,
Marianne
Hi Lynn,
I have not yet read your thread but I will say lots of prayers for you and Bailey.
I am so sorry to hear how hard life has been for you lately.
Hopefully this will be a minor incident and Bailey will be just fine.
Sending positive thoughts and lots of hugs,

Oh Lynne, that sounds like way too much to have to deal with!! I hope and pray that the shadow on Bailey's Xray is nothing and that you sail through your surgery and recovery. I also hope that you have some peace after taking Norman's ashes where he wanted. I'll be looking for your updates,

Lynne you have a lot to deal with right now - "we are only given in as much as we can handle in one day". I read that somewhere lately and it seems very appropriate.
Much love and hugs and positive prayers being sent your way,

Hey everyone. Thanks. The injuries have kept me off the computer for a bit - sorry I haven't responded sooner.
Bailey goes tomorrow to Tufts. I'm also very worried about my Clyde...he is really struggling with his arthritis and I find myself second-guessing what I am doing....
I am selfish, I guess. This has all been so very hard. And I know you are all struggling, too, so I'm hesitant to "whine"...but Norman's death, health issues, work issues, and these babies - well...you all know where I am at with this thought process.
Oh! I hate to say this because it sounds so pathetic, so please forgive me beforehand...but I could not feel more alone if I tried. I truly do not want to be cruel or selfish but...they eat, drink, pee and poop, wag and talk to me still...I just can't.
OMGoodness I am so sorry!

This morning I drove Annie to K State feeling all alone in this world - there weren't even any cars on the road... I was scared. I checked in to this wonderful group midday and there were tons of loving messages and I realised that the "cushings angels" were surrounding me. :D
So there you go - all of us cushings angels are right there with you looking over your shoulder, whispering words of encouragement and giving you major strength. You are not alone. We are right there with you.
I hope this helps a bit as you prepare for tomorrow. Big hugs and warm thoughts going out to you and your furry ones. Kim
You are never alone, you will never be alone, we are all here waiting, praying with you.
Someone once told me God does not want our hearts to break and does not give us more than we can handle.
If you have to post ten thousand times to quell the fears, ten thousand times we will be there for you and we will listen and answer ten thousand times more.
Know that we care very much.

Oh Lynne,
You are never alone, honey! Life can be such a bitch sometimes we forget about everything but our burdens; it is impossible for us to see beyond. But even in those darkest of times, you are not alone. So many hold you dear in their hearts and miss you.
Please don't give up. Lay down and cry if you need, scream if you need, run down the road naked if you need, but never, ever give up. We are here anytime you need to reach out, no matter what you need to say. We do love you and want the best for you always. Let us help if we can.
Keep your chin up, sweetheart, we are all pulling for you!
Hugs,

Lynne,
Sorry I have not replied sooner.
You rely on them as they rely on you I think.
I have no fear of your taking advantage of them, they know that you know their limitations. We all know that also.
Bless you and them all.

Hello.
Thank you. Thank you all so much.
Tufts did not feel the same way about Bailey, but...they acknowledged that she is getting up there in years and may have some issues with her upper airway. Good news is their radiologists did not see any masses or mets, so they didn't even feel to need to repeat the x-rays or take more blood. They want to see how she does on the Lasix and antibiotics. Bad news - could be something in the larngyx or upper airway....So...fingers crossed, prayers being said. Thank you.
My boy Clyde needs to go next week. He is so arthritic! There has been some discussion about Adequan shots and such but I don't know.
Me? I'm hanging. With all of your help.

Hi Lynne!
Soooo good to hear from you! :D:D And good news on Bailey! :D
As for the possibilities...they are just that, and we all have them. Celebrate the good news that they found no masses or other indications of cancer. Even if it's just a little celebration, do something fun and enjoyable for yourself and your babies. You deserve it, sweetie.
You keep hanging. Sometimes that's the best we can do for the moment and that's all any of us can do - our best from moment to moment. How well I understand that myself...

Lynne,
We found out that Moria had a thryroid deficiency when she began exhibiting signs of larangeal paralysis. Do you know Bailey's status concerning thyriod?

Lynne -
My lab Molson also had thyroid problems and also has restricted trachea. He kinda chokes/spits water when he drinks and breathes heavily. My vet found this with an x-ray. He also said he has a mild case of laryngeal paralysis. There is a great list on yahoo under the groups heading for that should you need it. **Fingers crossed that you don't** My lab, Molson has responded well to thyroid therapy and a raised water bowl, that helps with the gagging after drinking. My vet says the surgery for the laryngeal paralysis is not needed. That might be because he is almost 15 now.

Hi Lynne!
Just got back from out of the country and went right to your thread. I was saying prayers for Bailey in French & English - thought that a "double-decker" couldn't hurt. I am so happy and relieved for you. God knows, you needed this break. Now that the sun has started to shine, celebrate and enjoy this time. We love you all and are here for you any time.
Hugs & tail wags to you and the furrbabies.

Hi Lynne:
My name is Carole and I am relatively new to this site having a schnauzer diagnosed with cushings. I will keep you and your sweet baby in my prayers. They become such an intricate part of our lives and give unconditional love. Try to keep your thoughts on the positive side. I know that is easier said than done. Please keep us all posted.

Lynne,
Lacey has a "collapsing trachea". The wall of the trachea momentarily falls against the opposite wall and it causes her to cough. It is something found quite often in smaller breeds, like toy poodles. It causes her to cough when she gets overexcited or when she overexerts herself. It's kind of a "honking" cough and it ends with her clearing her throat. She has had it for many years. There is nothing they can do about it so she, and I, just have to live with it. I have learned what causes her to be troubled by it, so I try to avoid those situations. So far she has managed to do Ok and there is never any loss of breath or passing out or anything serious that has come from a coughing spell. Could Bailey have something like that?
Marlene
