Corky and I would like to say hi and welcome you and Butch.
I'm sorry you are going through this. Corky started taking 20 mg of Trilo once a day. He's now taking 31 mg. He never had any problems with swelling. It might be possible that it's an allergic reaction, or it could be something totally different. I myself never heard of the medication causing swollen glands.
Corky also lost alot of his hair, but it's now grown back. It took awhile once he started on his Trilo. He'll be 13 in July, and is still going strong.
Hopefully they will be able to find the cause of the swollen glands.
I'm sure others will be on shortly. Someone might have more information and knowledge than I do. You have found a very wonderful group of people.

I'm glad you found us! I moved from Omaha NE to a town of less than 25k and my 12 1/2 yr old schnauzer was diagnosed with cushings. I ended up switching vets after a bad experience and have had to train the new one a bit.
My dog is now almost 16 1/2! So when treated a cush dog can lead a normal life.
I have never heard of a dog reacting like that to trilo and I would CEASE giving it until I had a better idea as to what is going on. Cushings can be easily misdiagnosed. So before we can really help you can you please tell us what tests were done to get to the dx and what the numbers/results were? If you don't have them either go to the vet and get copies or phone them to get the info and THEN next visit get copies. You will be glad you did.
How far away are you from a town with decent vets? You might have to either make the trek OR figure out a way to coordinate between local and city... My concern is you seem to have ZERO confidence in the locals.
Cushings is easily treated but you don't mess around with chemo drugs. I want to make sure the dx is right and then we can worry about what to do next. So please share all testing info as soon as you can. Do not worry about holding off on treatment. Cushings is usually not a disease that needs to be treated immediately... so we have time to get this right!! Kim

Hi and welcome -
As the others have said, that is not a reaction that you'd expect from the vetoryl. Where on her neck did the glands swell. More than one swollen? Because I'd be suspicious of the teeth, too, I think. Maybe an abscess? If so, I'm wondering if the lowering of her cortisol (with it's natural anti-inflammatory properties) could have worsened something like that - where it had previously been suppressing minor swelling and inflammation. Don't know - just grasping. But until it's all sorted out, stopping the trilo may be wise. And yes, do post those diagnostic test results when you can.
Some rural vets are willing to do the testing, locally, and then consult with a specialisit who is further away. But for more serious concerns, sometimes a trip to the city is unavoidable. Where do you live? Sue

Hi Butch's mom/dad?
I'm sorry, I did not get your name? Would you mind sharing what city and state you live in? Welcome from me and Princess. I certainly hope you can find all the help needed to get Butch through whatever medical problem he is currently experiencing, and that you can try to fight for his life before making any drastic decisions. There are so many knowledgable and experienced individuals here on the forum, so please stay on board and sit tight until you hear from them. Please keep us updated on Butch's status. Best regards, Jeanette

Hi,
I was also reading several articles that do say that dogs can get tosillitis, secondary to other medical issues, one of which is due to infections of the teeth.

Hi again -
Has anything come back yet on the tissue sample from the city vet?
If it is tonsillitis/abscessed tooth/bad teeth, then your pup needs to get on antibiotics and have the dental work done asap. I wouldn't wait. Is that something that your local vet can do? My Zo woke up one morning with a huge swelling under her eye and they put her on antibiotics that day and scheduled the dental work for the very next morning. In Zo's case, it was an abscessed upper molar. I imagine if that's what it is, your dog is in a lot of pain. Of course, it would be better for your girl if her cushings was under control, but this (whatever it is) would seem to be more of a priority right now. Sue
