Our dog, Bonnie, age 12 has had Cushings for over a year. She had surgery last July, 09 and has done really well since then. They found a rather large cancerous tumor enveloping her adrenal and removed all they could. Now it is back and we won't do more surgery. Are treating with vitoryl to reduce symptoms. It seems inevitable her tumor is growing and she is slowing down, but comfortable, I think. I know we are going to lose her and are wanting to become familiar with similar situations, information, encouragement.

Thanks for asking.
Sorry about the outcome from adrenal surgery, where was it perfomed.
Has Lysodren been considered, in some cases it reduces the tumor
Please post more. There are lots of people here with many experiences.

Hi,
Corky and I want to welcome you and Bonnie to a very wonderful group of very caring, supportive, and knowledge people. I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I wish I had some advice I could give you. My Corkster has an adrenal tumor, but because of his age and other medical conditions, he is not a good candidate for surgery.
You are doing the best that you can possibly do. As long as Bonnie is not in any pain as is not suffering, the treatment might very well be helping her. Sending positive thoughts and prayers that the tumor is not cancerous.

Hi
Welcome to you and Bonnie. I'm so sorry the surgery wasn't a complete success, and that the tumor has come back.
We have a member, Ken, whose baby girl Shiloh had an adrenalectomy 3.5 years ago. Now, Ken and Shiloh don't actually have a thread, but if you look at Oscar- wrasco's thread, Lori posted some links about Shiloh there. Ken is one of our experts on all/most things adrenal.
I wish you both the best of luck with your treatment.

Hello and welcome,
So you're in the foothills just outside of Boulder. I attended C.U. and try to get back to see a football game here and there. I bet Bonnie has had lots of fun in the rockies.
My dog had a large, malignant (low grade) adrenal tumor in her left gland and had a successful adrenalectomy in 2006. I am sorry to hear they weren't able to get all of Bonnie's out but I know that happens sometimes.
I think you are doing the best you can with Bonnie. I'm sure you know, your two options to treat her symptoms are Trilostane and Lysodren. As I understand it, the younger Internists generally favor Trilostane over Lysodren to treat adrenal tumors; many of the older ones prefer Lysodren. I believe there is a school of thought that if malignancy is suspected, Lysodren might be a better choice. It's probably about 6 of one and a half dozen of the other.
I hope the Trilo. works effectively and Bonnie lives with a good quality of life for a long time.
GO BUFFS!!!
Ken
